The Commemorative Air Force is a non-profit national organization with 11,000 members in 76 units across the United States.  Its mission is to acquire, restore, fly, and educate the public about vintage US military aircraft and their role in US history. The Gulf Coast Wing of the CAF, headquartered at the Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport, is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the B-17 Flying Fortress Texas Raiders. The United States built 12,731 B-17s and today only about nine of them are still flying. The CAF Flying Fortress was one of the last B-17s ever built, coming off the line in July of 1945. Texas Raiders has undergone extensive restoration adn performs regularly in airshows, civic events and flyovers throughout the United States, reuniting veterans and the public with historic WWII aircraft.
